With summer temperatures rising and electricity demand increasing, Santa Clara is asking residents to help conserve energy and reduce strain on the Washington County power system.
Help Save Energy Between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
When possible, please limit electricity use during these peak hours:
- Run appliances during off-peak hours. Wait until later in the evening, overnight, or morning to run laundry, dishwashers, and other high-energy appliances.
- Raise your thermostat. Set your thermostat a few degrees higher when possible. If you have a smart thermostat, use its energy-saving or efficiency settings to help reduce cooling costs and energy use.
- Avoid using the oven. Cook outdoors or use smaller appliances that use less energy.
- Turn off unnecessary lights. Remember to turn off lights when leaving a room.
- Unplug electronics when not in use. Chargers, appliances, and other electronics can continue using energy even when they are not actively being used.
- Close blinds and curtains. Blocking direct sunlight can help keep your home cooler.
- Keep exterior doors closed. This helps keep cool air inside and reduces the amount of work your air conditioner needs to do.
- Use fans wisely. Fans can help you feel cooler, but turn them off when you leave the room.
Small Changes Add Up
Shifting energy-intensive activities away from the 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. peak period can help reduce demand and support reliable power for our community. Thank you for doing your part to help Santa Clara conserve energy!
