The Santa Clara City Council has approved an important update to water rates that affects all residents and businesses connected to the Washington County Water Conservancy District’s regional water system.

What’s Changing?

Effective January 1, 2023, the Washington County Water Conservancy District is implementing an Excess Water Use Surcharge for users who exceed established monthly water use thresholds. This surcharge is designed to encourage water conservation and fund important conservation initiatives throughout our region.

How Does This Affect You?

The surcharge applies to users based on when their water impact fee was paid:

For connections established before 2023:

  • Users who paid their impact fee on or before December 31, 2022
  • Excess water use fee: $1 per 1,000 gallons over the monthly threshold

For new connections starting in 2023:

  • Users who paid their impact fee on or after January 1, 2023
  • Excess water use fee: $10 per 1,000 gallons over the monthly threshold
Supporting Water Conservation

These fees will directly support water conservation initiatives across Washington County, helping ensure sustainable water resources for our growing community. The tiered structure encourages responsible water use while providing funding for programs that benefit all residents.
